Pandit Ram Krishna Bose
: Biography
Pdt. Ram Krishna Bose was born on Jan. 4, 1960 in Jamalpur Village of
Munger district in Bihar. His father Nityacharan Bose and mother Mrs.
Ashoka Sundari has five children of whom Ramkrishna was the youngest.
He hails from a family that had nothing to do with music. As they did
not admire his interest in music so secretly he started learning to play
‘Tabla’ at an early age of five years. His inherent talent
become evident at a very early stage. Living in ‘Barobari Tola’
he studied in the Gorang School over there. After the school hours when
other children and other members of the family reclined, Khoka Babu. as
Pdt. Ramkrishna was addressed those days, used to listen to Tabla recital
standing outside the music class near the curtain of the room. Pdt. Ram
Prasad Mehta of Banaras Gharana, who taught Tabla at that time, Came to
know of this and called him in. He suggested Ramkrishna to fill up the
form, take admission and learn music systematically.
Ram Krishna told him of his fathers dislike of music and said that if
he came to know of this, he would stop his coming to the class. Looking
at his deep interest and ardent desire, Guruji decided to teach him Tabla
for five years without taking any fees. Even the examination fees was
paid by the Guruji filled with a deep sense of gratitude for this favour
child Ramkrishna become a devout disciple of Guruji and served his teachers
with ardent devotion.
For five years his training in Tabla continued without his parents knowing
about it. He was just eleven them. He learnt playing Sitar from Prof.
Ranjit Saha who was a disciple Ustaad Vilayat Khan. Due to his competence
he was able to enroll as a student at Shantiniketan where he learnt Sitar
for about eight years from Prof. Suresh Misra, also a disciple of Ustad
Vilayat Khan. At Vishwa Bharati. Mr. Bose Studied devotedly and earned
scholarship for eight years as a recognition of his talent and merit.
He mastered Robindra-Sangeet-Nazrool-Geeti, Tabla, Sitar and Santoor and
passed Sangeet Bhaskar examination conducted by Chandigarh University
with first position. He also passed M.Mus. examination in all these three
disciplines.
Pdt. Ramkrishna Bose practiced classical Vocal along with violinist Anil
Bhattacharya and Mukul Guha.
Mr. Bose enjoys playing all the three- Tabla, Santoor and Sitar but he
says that the depth of notes is better experienced in Sitar, so he loves
Sitar most.
